Making Space to Be Me.

Earlier this week, I had the privilege to partner with a woman with a desire to clear some emotional and energetic debris to make way for who she is as a woman who leads. She came to Red Chair Ranch as a way to invest in herself in preparation for the emerging chapter on her life’s journey.

It was an intensive day in her “red chair”. The afternoon was spent with the horses. Annie was chosen as the equine coach. She did her job well. As she always does.

A horse, Annie is a sentient being, highly in tune with the energy around her. She feels the energy. Gets the message behind the energy. Chooses an action to address the message. And goes back to grazing. It is a beautiful way to live and horses have much to teach us about that, which is what Annie does when she is with a client.

On this particular day, Annie expressed some explosive energy as the client observed her from outside the round pen. As the client prepared to enter the pen with Annie, she acknowledged what she was feeling and as she did, Annie calmed and went back to grazing. As I opened the gate for the client to enter, Annie calmly walked towards us, inviting the client to engage. Through her time with Annie, this beautiful and courageous woman let go and reclaimed who she knows she is as a woman who leads.

Each of us is impacted and influenced by the people in our life. Just as we impact and influence them. Through these experiences, we feel different emotions. We become used to feeling a certain way or stuff our feelings down. We create conditioned responses to situations. These conditioned responses produce certain results.

It is when we are able to embrace our courage and explore ourselves, that we can acknowledge what we feel and how we are showing up. When we use the wisdom of our minds and our hearts, we can clear our energetic and emotional space, and choose to be, receive, live and lead, as who we are meant to be.

Having experienced this myself, continuing to learn from my herd, ongoing research and witnessing the impact on others, I believe that horses have much to teach us about letting go and claiming who we are.

As you reflect on this, I leave you with this beautiful poem from Rumi. And if this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out to talk about how some time in your Red Chair can help you on your journey. It is when we have the courage to look within that we can truly lead ourselves and others.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness that comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows

who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark thoughts, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

As a guide from beyond.
