The Journey that is Worthwhile is Rarely Easy

June 2021

For the past 365 days, I have started my day with my horses.

Breakfast time has not always been easy.

Little did we know that when we brought the horses home to Red Chair Ranch on June 28, 2021, we were headed towards one of the coldest and snowiest winters in history, followed by the wettest spring.

While the first few months were ‘easy’. The months after that were tough.

Some of the things I have learnt this past year are this.

Good footing and a firm foundation are critical to our success. This goes for anything that we do.

Setbacks are part of the process and facilitate our growth. Regardless of our position, age and experience.

Character is not created through easy situations. Experiencing some tough stuff teaches you things you cannot learn from a book . . . or an Instagram reel or YouTube video!

Acknowledging the feelings that we have and using them to inform our decisions, contributes to resilience and better emotional and physical health.

When things are tough, keep going.

Honor the people in your circle.

Horses are incredibly resilient, forgiving, wise, and kind.

Had I not continued through the challenges presented this past year, I would not have received the gifts of these lessons.

This would not have been built.

Winter 2022

Experiences like this would not be happening.

12 leaders exploring who they are now after leading through challenging circumstances over the past 27 months.

Or this.

A group of women who came together to reflect, release and reclaim.

Today, celebrating 365 days of taking care of the herd, I celebrate my resiliency and learning with immense gratitude.

There is much more work to do.

On the physical property.

Learning from the herd about how to be a better leader and more importantly, human being.

Continuing to create the safe and trusted space of Red Chair so that people can lead with courageous curiosity, clarity and confidence.

Many more professionals, leaders, human beings are meant to spend time with the Red Chair Ranch herd. I have no doubt.

Thank you all, horse and human, who have and continue to be on this path with me so that I can serve others, alongside my herd.

Annie and I - Summer 2020

I look forward to the next 365 days with courageous curiosity knowing that many other lives will be changed as a result of time spent with the Red Chair Ranch Herd.

Making workplaces, communities, and families, stronger, more resilient, and kind.

And it is in the depths of your soul that you feel. And I will help you go there. Feel. Think. Choose. And go back to grazing.
