Leading Requires Change Within Us

We need to create change in ourselves in order to learn to look at things differently - let go of old perceptions and outdated knowledge. We need to recognize that even very little change in how we look at things can make a big difference.

The Alchemy of Lightness

We are conditioned beings.

Some of our conditioning is good and helpful.

Over time we develop habits and behaviours that facilitate our well-being, our relationships, and our ability to create and lead. Ourselves and others.

Some of our conditioning is not good and helpful.

It keeps us from seeing things about ourselves, others and the environment around us that we would benefit from understanding. It keeps us in a rut that we often do not realize we are in.

I don’t feel like I was in a rut when I left my executive role. My strategies were producing good outcomes thanks to my teams who were working hard to shift corporate culture and further develop leaders.

However, I wasn’t as healthy as I wanted to be. And I don’t believe I was leading as best I could.

A lot was going on in the organization that required me to ‘be on’.

All of the time.

It was the most challenging environment I have experienced. Few people knew about the quagmire we were walking through. And I couldn’t talk about it.

This comes with senior leadership.

Little did I know when I walked away that my path would lead me to where I am today.

It was a gut thing that prompted me to walk away. And it has only been over time that I have been conscious of the pieces that contributed to the decision.

After that, there were a series of gut moments.

They led me to Annie.

To a year-long study of learning how to partner with horses as co-coaches.

To the bucolic 20 acres in Cooks Creek where my husband and I have worked with the natural environment and added some beautiful manmade structures, to create a physical Red Chair space.

I have had to create change in myself to follow this path.

The work requires it of me.

And that work, in myself, will never stop.

That is the case for each of us.

Whatever role we are in.

Wherever life has taken us.

Our ability. Our courage to look inward. To explore who we are.

That is life.

That is leadership.

The space of Red Chair continually provides a safe and trusted space to do this work.

When we partner with the horses in the work of self reflection.

Of understanding ourselves.

Understanding our team members.

We are able to be more honest and real with ourselves and others.

Partnering with this herd is unlike anything I have experienced before. The impacts are often profound. Many have said it has changed their life.

If you are ready for an experience that has the potential to illuminate and create clarity.

If it is time for your team to elevate how they lead together.

The herd and I are ready for you.
